
Elected for a seventh term, Dr. Herb Conaway, a Democrat, has been serving the 7th Legislative District as their Assemblyman since January 13, 1998. In the 213th Legislature, Dr. Conaway is a leader in the Democratic Majority, serving as Chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee, Vice-Chairman of the State Government Committee and member of the Appropriations Committee.
Dr. Conaway is the only member of the Legislature who has both a medical and law degree. He specializes in internal medicine and practices in Willingboro, New Jersey. Raised in Burlington County, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Politics from Princeton University and earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and his J.D. degree from Rutgers Law School, Camden.
The Assemblyman served as a United States Air Force Captain in the medical corps at McGuire Air Force Base, as a general medical officer and as an assistant director of the Primary Care Clinic for the base.
Dr. Conaway previously served on the Board of Trustees of Family Service of Burlington County and is a former board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington County.
Assemblyman Conaway is nationally known for his work encouraging the use of information technology to improve health care and lower costs, and wrote the “New Jersey Health Information Technology Promotion Act,” which created New Jersey’s health information technology planning infrastructure. In addition, the Assemblyman sponsored “Grace’s Law”, which requires health insurance coverage for hearing aids for covered persons 15 years old and younger and also introduced legislation to expand health care access and prescription coverage.
Assemblyman Conaway has also authored laws that have mandated technology education, improved nutrition in schools, and toughened government oversight at the State Commission of Investigation. He expanded the lists of crimes where the police can collect DNA samples, sponsored NJ’s Primary Seat Belt Law and is a tireless advocate for permanent property tax relief, increased education funding, tougher ethics laws, and increased support for veterans.

Dr. Conaway remains committed in his efforts to tackle other important issues for New Jerseyans by introducing measures to provide real property tax relief, improve the educational system, protect consumers and promote economic development.
The Assemblyman resides in Delanco with his family.
