About the Committee
The Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee is responsible for state policy that affects New Jersey’s veterans, active duty personal and members of the New Jersey National Guard. The chairman and the members of this committee strive to create legislation to honor our veterans and soldiers, to promote their health & safety, protect their interest and ensure their service to our country and state does not go unrecognized.
About Chairman Conners
Having served in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1969 and the US Army Reserve from 1969 to 1970, Assemblyman Conners has served on the Military and Veterans Affairs committee since first being elected to office in 1998. In 2002, the Assemblyman was made chairman of the committee and has dedicated his experience to creating policy that assists military members and their families throughout our great state.
Assemblyman Conners has helped to create reforms that continue to keep the needs and benefits of servicemen and veterans in the forefront of the NJ General Assembly. Each year since 2001, Assemblyman Conners has been the proud host of POW/MIA Remembrance Breakfast that draws hundreds of veterans from throughout the state together. In addition, the Assemblyman has been honored for his work and legislation by major veterans and military organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the New Jersey National Guard for his service and dedication on behalf of states veterans and service members.
Below are some of Conners’ initiatives which have been signed into law:

A770: Extends payment of accidental death benefit in PFRS, SPRS, PERS and TPAF to survivors of certain members of reserve component of Armed Forces and National Guard

A2613: Provides veterans' organizations right to receive unclaimed veterans' cremains after one year.

AR173: Memorializes Congress and the President to pass "Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act of 2009."

AR135: Supports New Jersey National Guard.

A786: Permits implementation of encrypted counterfeit-resistant revenue stamps for cigarettes sold in the State.
